Keep Your Concrete Looking Great!

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and the snow is melting. It’s finally spring time and now is the perfect time to take a closer look at your property for any issues with your concrete. Take some notes and be sure to talk to our concrete lifting specialists about how we can help.

Here is a checklist of things to be aware of:

  1. Uneven pavement/concrete. Over the winter, did your concrete heave or crack? Water can drain into the cracks on your driveway or sidewalk; when the temperatures drop, the water freezes and expands making cracks even bigger. The bigger the crack, the more water/moisture is allowed in causing a destructive cycle. Professional crack sealing with a waterproof sealant can solve the problem, breaking the cycle. A quick walk around your property, making note of any uneven cement segments or new cracks, can help identify potential tripping hazards.

  2. Water flow/eavestrough location. Watching the flow of water from the melted snow can give you some hints about the foundation. Are you noticing icy patches? Perhaps there are drainage issues that can also be causing problems. When water flows towards your house, instead of away from your house, the water can erode your foundation over time.

  3. Exposed roots/growing trees. Are there new trees on your property or very large, old trees? Trees have extensive root systems that can grow in the ground under concrete pads. They can be commonly seen ‘uprooting’ patios or causing uneven sidewalks.

Yearly inspections with a watchful eye can keep your concrete safe and looking great!
